HIROKO FUJIOKA

Fujioka Hiroko, a renowned Japanese artist, has dedicated her career to exploring and inventing leather-dyeing techniques.

Beginning her journey in the early 70s, Hiroko developed the Twin-zome method for dyeing large leather areas, but physical strain led her to seek new approaches.

She discovered inspiration in Cuoi d’Oro, a surviving renaissance technique in Japan.

Despite seeing copies of her work, an artistic partnership renewed her passion and introduced her to gold leaf and lacquer techniques. She combined these to create “Kinkarakawa Urushi” or Cuoi d’Oro lacquer, becoming the first globally to employ this dyeing approach.

Hiroko’s work symbolizes her hopes for a peaceful world and empathy for those impacted by war and natural disasters.

TAKUO MATSUZAWA

I am producing various urushi art pieces in Japan. Urushi is a natural sap that can transform into stunning forms of art. I create urushied handles, embellish train interiors, and craft kintsugi works. Kintsugi, in particular, is a technique that originated in Japan and has spread worldwide. I am at the forefront of leading the world with the exceptional skills of working with urushi. In recognition of my work, I have received the Good Design Award in Japan in 2011, 2013, 2016, and 2021. In 2016, I was selected as a member of a project initiated by LEXUS to support Japanese craftsmanship.

I have collaborated with companies such as Japan Airlines and Toyota on various projects. Currently, I am working on creating a fountain pen that showcases the extraordinary mastery of urushiing. Additionally, I plan to actively exhibit my works in the field of NFT art. Through my artistry, I aim to push the boundaries of urushi craftsmanship and explore new possibilities.

By combining traditional techniques with contemporary designs, I strive to create pieces that captivate and inspire. My passion for urushi extends beyond physical mediums, as I embrace digital platforms to showcase my creations in the ever-evolving world of NFT art.

RAOUL PICTOR

Hervé Graumann, a trailblazer in Swiss digital media art during the 90s, gained widespread recognition. This computer animation features Raoul Pictor, a character reminiscent of “Super Mario, ” engaging in a creative process that highlights the evolving nature of digitally generated art.

Graumann’s artistic exploration extends to video sculptures like “EZmodels, ” where he transforms photographs into three dimensional structures, creating an eerie world that challenges conventional perceptions.

In the series “Patterns, ” Graumann subverts expectations by crafting ornamental compositions through traditional artistic methods, not digital copy-pasting. The resulting patterns represent a fusion of genres, incorporating elements from Pop Art, Nouveau Réalisme, photography, and ornamentation, offering viewers a dynamic and multifaceted visual experience.

GAO XIN

The Jiaozi NFT represents the world’s inaugural government paper currency, embodying modern monetary elements for circulation and reserve. Originating on January 12, 1024, in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, by the Jiaozi Affairs—the earliest central bank—it endured for over four centuries. Notably predating Europe’s introduction via Marco Polo, or Sweden’s modern issuance in 1661. China Finance Museum is crafting a second NFT, the Gong silver dollar from 1928, minted by the Red Army. This silver dollar bears profound historical significance: while previous communist regimes’ financial systems faltered, China’s red financial system, born in 1928, flourished, impacting the global financial order. A prototype of the Chinese coin, it holds substantial collectible value.

China’s paper money innovation drew upon their famed inventions: papermaking and printing. Today, paper currency is a cornerstone of the global and national financial landscape. Cryptocurrencies and NFTs represent contemporary milestones within this millennia old history of banknotes.

The China Museum of Finance actively promotes cross-border communication, establishing Jiaozi exhibition halls, forums, and monuments in Chengdu. With a vision toward non-material cultural heritage, they drive dialogue in China’s financial industry and worldwide.
