MATERNAL LOVE belongs to the serie MYTHIC LOVE. “A Water baby” by Herbert James Draper inspired me on of the strongests loves, the maternal love. Inspired in the greek mythology, a nymph, naked except for a thin strip of seaweed covering her lower body, opens a large oyster shell, perched on a rocky outcrop, stretching out to sea. A naked baby lies inside the shell, asleep, with its legs drawn up to its stomach and its arms around its chest, with curly dark hair. The nymph is in profile to the right, knee-deep in the sea, her long dark hair falling over her left shoulder. She is protecting the baby with all the love of the world.
