The artist here seeks to contemporise historical events of major significance in a visually dramatic form.  The shadow of the French Revolution is long and could be said to still be alive today in the corruption and luxurious living of some of our politicians and ruling class with their detachment from the populations they are responsible for. In the late 18th Century, the Palace of Versailles and its Court was comprised of approximately 2000 nobles, aristrocrats, landowners and their attendant staff, compelled by the King to permanently live there.  Punishment for disobeying the strict protocols was the humiliation of exile.  Leisurely days were spent hunding, drinking, eating, card playing, dancing, partaking in theatrical presentations, - their lives became characterised by gossip, intrigue, affairs and scandal.  Being absent from their estates and having to sustain an expensive lifestyle, taxes were increased on the peasants which let to poverty and desperation.  Although this gross simplification of the actual events at the time, the rest is well known to us as the French Revolution. These 15 drawings look at the outward apprearance of Versailles, the next 15 will examine the darker hidden side of the court and its attendants...
