Description

The film REVISITING THE CRASH SCENE has 4 parts. This is Part1 . The majority of the footage are filmed at BOZAR in Brussels in 2018 The film was created and edited in 2021 for a project for SPITZER SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE in New York. And the opening scene I filmed in New York in November 2016 at the Trump election demonstrations with violence and chaos in the streets of Manhattan. PART 1 – PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY Here the intro and the Bozar stroll (Bozar building designed by Horta) is in itself a signifier and the subject/ Elektra (Perceived/Perceiver) simultaneously. A MENTAL MAQUETTE of a Neural Cinema. Psychogeography sets for itself the study of the precise laws and specific effects of the geographical environment, whether consciously organized or not, on the emotions and behaviour of individuals. – Guy Debord, 1955 Trauma is universal and timeless. (It can lead to certain rebellious act/s or a complete dysfunction –PLACE and TIME being its’ access lines - the city being its’ GRID. The city can be anywhere and everywhere all at the same time- London, New York, Aleppo, Brussels, Berlin etc.. However, it has a map of its’ own, a blueprint of its’ on, and forms a city of its’ own, and an architecture of its’ own. Synaesthesia and sound haunts the Dérive - DRIFT - of the subject (In this case ELEKTRA- and object (Her memory) as they go along looking for the EXIT. EXIT or NO EXIT Trauma is a situation that can last a lifetime/ / generations, until a Détournement happens as a result which causes further displacement of the subject both physically and emotionally. A re-enactment of it and here in this film she re-visits the crash scene in an attempt to resolve it, to reimagine the city in her own head contemplating and swinging between suicide (After the footsteps of Roland Barthes & Guy Debord and others).. and a desperate attempt of HOPE and rebirth
