Description
Marabout Blue : Régis Looten was born in 1961 in the north of France. First known for his poetry, he won the prize for the best poetic esteem awarded by the society of authors and poets of France. He published his first book at age 17 in Brussels. Little by little he was only devoted to writing and painting with a few creative journeys in sculpture. After studying at the local fine arts in his youth, he followed the teaching of masters like Arthur Van-Ecke or Jean Roulland. Another frequent theme in the painter’s work is the pelicans, revered in Egypt, glorified in the Templar bestiary, and connected to the theme of the protective Virgin. They provide an opportunity for intense symbolic exploration. The pair of parent birds celebrates the season of love and creation, while the painting of the young ones celebrates lineage and the transmission of life. The pelican revives its offspring by spreading its blood for them to drink, immunizing them through this sacrifice. Art is a gift of oneself and often an ultimate gift. The pelicans convey this in peace and joy. Now, Regis is living a new love with the city of Venice that inspires him a lot.
