For centuries, many men and women have left everything behind to devote their lives to contemplation. LIBRES is a journey into some of those people’s inner selves. They, who rarely utter a word, gave us permission to enter and talk to them, in places that remain closed to today’s world: monasteries. What leads people to give up the world they know, to withdraw from it for the sake of humanity? How do they think? LIBRES touches upon the great questions of our existence, with one single objective: to listen. THE DIRECTOR TELLS US: The film "Libres" was born during the pandemic of 2019. I was part of a team of professionals working on a communication campaign. The objective was to raise funds to help monks and nuns who, not being able to sell their products, had no money left to buy food. I like to think that the result of some of our life changing decisions are often greater and unexpected. When we were able to go out, I directed an advertising campaign for the DeClausura Foundation. This time, I spent four days in a monastery living with the monks. Upon my return, I began my research about this hidden life, so special and unknown in the 21st century. In one of the first books I read, I remember a chilling phrase by Pope Francis referring to these cloistered monks and nuns. He said: "The world and the Church needs you as beacons that illuminate the path of the men and women of our time.” What philosophy of life or inner fullness must these people have for the Pope to refer to them as beacons that enlighten us? Thus, begins a path that culminates with the film "Libres". Let us hope that it will urge many people to discover the truth about some issues that affect us daily in the world we live in because perhaps the world in which we live is dragging us in another direction.
