Description

This is the only work of art in the world inspired by a crack on the bottom of a plate. Kintsugi is a technique in which damaged objects are repaired with natural urushi and decorated with gold powder. It originated in Japan and has a long history and culture. I found a crack on the back of this plate and decided to repair it using kintsugi. The crack is on the back so you don't notice it when you use the bowl normally. I wanted to pay tribute to Rosenthal's long history of traditional craftsmanship by adding the company logo to the back, which I did by Kintsugi. Rosenthal was delighted to accept my offer. I am very grateful to the company. In Japan, it is traditional to show fancy patterns and decorations boldly on the back, not the front. So I decided to show a little of the Kintsugi pattern on the front to arouse customers' curiosity and give them a hint of the decoration on the back. This pattern was created by hand with a fine brush by skilled Japanese maki-e craftsmen. Kintsugi is a unique expression. The condition of damaged vessels is unique in the world. There are a thousand different ways to repair them and no two are alike. This is the approach of the NFT. The phenomenon of reproducing and creating new beauty, as in Kintsugi, is also related to the approach of conflict and the coming of peace in the world. I hope that this method of repair will continue to spread throughout the world and be accepted as a symbol of peace. I intend to donate part of the proceeds to humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
