Maki-e is one of Japan's traditional urushi lacquer techniques, a delicate art form that combines urushi and gold powder to a high degree. This steering wheel has a wooden body, coated with urushi and then decorated with dragon using the maki-e technique. Dragons are a pattern of auspiciousness in China and Asia and have been used as a motif in various artworks. We have drawn dragons using a delicate maki-e technique.
